Antabuse

Antabuse (disulfiram) can be prescribed for the treatment of chronic alcoholism as well as a number of other conditions as prescribed by your health care provider. If you consume any amount of alcohol after taking Antabuse the following symptoms may be experienced after 10 minutes and during one hour: vomiting, nausea, breathing difficulty, chest pain, flushing of the face, headache, anxiety, weakness, sweating, choking, blurred vision, and mental confusion. If you ever had an allergic reaction to this medicine make sure your health care provider knows about it. You may not be able to start the treatment to prevent an allergic reaction, that this time may be more severe, from happening again. Your health care provider needs to know the names of all the drugs you are currently taking, especially isoniazid, amitriptyline, alcohol-containing medications, metronidazole, any vitamins, phenytoin or blood thinners.
